‘Violence is experienced by all women the world over irrespective of class. Poor women are mostly affected even though I believe that elite women also experience a higher rate but live with violence in silence. Women and girls experience violence both in public and private space by people very close or intimate to them as well as state or non-state actors. In spite of the numerous law and some political will, the enforcement of legislations is still a challenge with limited knowledge on existing laws, cultural resistance, lack of capacity, complexity of judiciary systems which enable inter relation with customary laws and institutions. Violence against women is on the increase in some part of the world. Women who find themselves in war situations have worst stories to tell and lack appropriate referral and redress systems and mechanisms. I am in favor of a Global Treaty on VAW.’
