“In Morocco as in other countries, domestic laws are insufficient to address the various human rights violations to which women are frequently subjected. Sometimes they are completely absent, especially on violence against women. For this reason, in our daily work, we encourage lawyers to have recourse to international laws particularly the different conventions related to the rights of women. An international treaty on violence against women will put an important legal document in the hands of jurists and lawyers to guarantee the rights of women victims of violence. Such a treaty will also provide a strong basis for legislative advocacy, for the NGOs and the activists calling for specific domestic laws on violence against women.”
