In my work focusing on promoting fundamental labor rights around the world, I see systematic gender discrimination and rampant violence against women in all sorts of workplaces and across a range of business sectors and countries.  I support a global treaty focused on violence against women because I think it will enable all of us – from civil society, governments, and the private sector – to concentrate our efforts on eradicating this human rights abuse and brake on sustainable development.  While VAW occurs in all sorts of settings, I think this treaty is an opportunity to highlight that women spend much of their lives in workplaces and special efforts to prevent VAW associated with workplaces are therefore critical.
