“We are in favor of a Global Treaty on Violence against Women because the extent and nature of the problem of violence against women necessitates a response that is both worldwide and legal.  Such a treaty will remove VAW once and for all out of the private sphere and place it squarely where it belongs, into the public sphere as a security and health concern.  It will step up pressure on governments, with clear obligations to eliminate VAW that cannot be gotten out of through cultural specificities.  It will provide a global road map of best practices for public actor response that will serve as a road map for concrete measures and solutions that must be taken.”
